A large part of heritage restoration work involves lead paint testing and safe removal, particularly on pre-1970s buildings where old paint layers may contain lead. We follow safe work practices for lead paint removal and surface preparation, protecting both the building and the people working on and around it.
Where a building calls for traditional, breathable finishes rather than modern paint systems, we apply limewash, French wash and other decorative coatings suited to sandstone, render and masonry substrates — finishes that allow the original material to breathe and age correctly, unlike modern acrylic paints which can trap moisture in older walls. For masonry and render substrates needing a mineral-based, vapour-permeable system, we also offer mineral and silica paint applications.
